Most exceptional surpluses in Maritime Southeast Asia will downgrade in severity, becoming mostly severe to exceptional surpluses in Indonesia and the Philippines, with near-normal conditions occurring in most other regions. Deficits are expected in northern areas of Thailand and Laos.

The forecast through June indicates that water deficits will shrink and downgrade but remain widespread. Intense deficits are forecast in Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul, and Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil; and French Guiana and Suriname. Surpluses are forecast in pockets of eastern Brazil.

The forecast through April indicates that water deficits will shrink considerably. However, intense deficits are forecast in Amapá, Pará, Amazonas, Rondônia, and Acre, Brazil, and French Guiana, Suriname, and Chile. Surpluses are forecast for the Orinoco Delta in eastern Venezuela.

The forecast through March 2020 indicates that water deficits in the region will shrink considerably. Nearly normal water conditions are forecast for much of the Amazon Basin in Brazil and eastern and southern states, but intense deficits will increase in central Brazil. Deficits will persist in much of Chile. Areas of surplus include Venezuela’s Orinoco Delta, central Colombia, and northern Peru.
