The forecast through September indicates significant water deficits in Peru, Mato Grosso and Mato Grosso do Sul in Brazil, Suriname, French Guiana, northern Chile, and on the Paraguay River. Moderate deficits will emerge in central Brazil and surpluses will persist in the east.

The forecast through August indicates that water deficits will shrink and downgrade overall but widespread deficits are forecast from western Amazonas, Brazil through São Paulo State and in much of Peru. Surpluses are forecast for eastern Brazil.

Global Precipitation & Temperature Outlook June 2020

The June Outlook indicates exceptionally hotter than normal temperatures in a number of places throughout the world including southern China, the Philippines, and parts of Southeast Asia and Indonesia. Precipitation anomalies will be, overall, moderate and less extensive. Wet anomalies include a wide band across the breadth of Brazil and into Bolivia and Paraguay.

Areas with a forecast of significant water surplus include: Kenya, Tanzania, Pakistan, Afghanistan, and northern European Russia. This Watch List is based on ISciences Water Security Indicator Model v2 (WSIMv2) run on 4 May 2020.

The forecast through June indicates that water deficits will shrink and downgrade but remain widespread. Intense deficits are forecast in Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul, and Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil; and French Guiana and Suriname. Surpluses are forecast in pockets of eastern Brazil.
