Water deficits of modest severity are forecast throughout many parts of Mexico over the next six months with pockets of exceptional deficits in Oaxaca, Yucatán, Guerrero, Michoacán, western Jalisco, and Nayarit. Moderate to severe deficits are forecast to persist in western Cuba and emerge in eastern Cuba and in Jamaica through February. Deficits will persist in Guatemala; surpluses will persist in Honduras, Nicaragua, and Costa Rica but may transition to both surplus and deficit.

Water deficits of varying severity are forecast throughout much of Mexico from November through January, with pockets of exceptional deficit in Oaxaca. Deficits will persist in Guatemala, and surpluses are forecast in eastern Honduras, Nicaragua, and northern Costa Rica. From February through April deficits in across northern Mexico will diminish, but moderate to exceptional deficits will persist in the southern states of Michoacán, Guerrero, Oaxaca, and parts of the Yucatán. Surpluses will persist in parts of Honduras and Nicaragua.

Water deficits are forecast for much of southern Mexico, the Yucatan Peninsula, Tamaulipas, the Baja Peninsula, and Guatemala through March or longer. Small pockets of exceptional deficits are expected in Michoacán and Oaxaca. Deficits on the Baja Peninsula are forecast to diminish by December, but emerge again in April with particular severity in Baja California Sur. Moderate surpluses are forecast to persist in Nicaragua through December and Costa Rica through March.

Water deficits on Mexico’s Baja Peninsula are forecast to diminish by November. Deficits in southern Mexico – reaching from Michoacán in the west to Tabasco on the Gulf of Mexico – will persist through May. Deficits are also forecast in Haiti through November, and Guatemala and El Salvador through May. Surpluses are forecast from Nicaragua to Panama through November but should diminish thereafter.

Deficits on the Baja Peninsula are forecast through October, with some abatement in August. Deficits will continue to emerge in southern Mexico through April. Surpluses are expected in northeastern Sonora, Mexico, northern Costa Rica, and eastern Panama through October. Deficits are forecast to emerge in Haiti. From November on moderate deficits will continue to emerge in southern Mexico, Guatemala, and El Salvador.
