ISCIENCES WORLDWIDE WATER WATCH LIST JUly 2024

This map presents a selection of regions likely to encounter significant water anomalies during the one year period beginning in April 2024 and running through March 2025 using 3 months of observed temperature and precipitation data and 9 months of forecast data.

The synopsis that follows provides highlights of regional water forecasts. Regional details are available in ISciences Global Water Monitor & Forecast Watch List July 15, 2024 (pdf).

United States: Isolated pockets of severe to extreme deficits are expected to linger in parts of the Midwest and Northeast until September 2024.

Canada: Portions of the Prairie Provinces are expected to endure severe to exceptional deficits until March 2025 or longer.

Mexico, Central America, and the Caribbean: Severe to extreme surpluses are expected to persist in the Yucatan Peninsula until March 2025 or longer.

South America: Widespread exceptional deficits are expected to resolve in most of South America, but may continue in Peru and the Guianas until December 2024.

Europe: The majority of eastern Europe may experience deficits of varying intensity until December 2024.

Africa: Southeastern portions of Africa are expected to observe extreme to exceptional surplus until September 2024.

Middle East: Southern regions of the Middle East are expected to observe exceptional deficits until March 2025 or longer.

Central Asia and Russia: Surpluses of extreme to exceptional intensity are anticipated to linger in Northern Kazakhstan until December 2024.

South Asia: Extreme to exceptional surpluses will continue in southern India until September 2024 or longer.

Southeast Asia and the Pacific: Surpluses of varying intensity may linger in Maritime Southeast Asia until September 2024.

East Asia: Pockets of exceptional deficits may persist in western regions of Tibet until March 2025 or longer.

Australia & New Zealand: Extreme to exceptional surpluses are expected to continue in portions of northern and southeastern Australia until March 2025 or longer.
