Exceptional deficits will continue in western, northern, and southeastern regions of Russia. Surpluses in Kazakhstan are expected to decrease in size but remain in small areas of the country.
Most exceptional surpluses in Maritime Southeast Asia will downgrade in severity, becoming mostly severe to exceptional surpluses in Indonesia and the Philippines, with near-normal conditions occurring in most other regions. Deficits are expected in northern areas of Thailand and Laos.
Pockets of severe to exceptional deficits will occur in northwestern and central Mexico. Significant portions of Central America will observe severe to exceptional surpluses.
Most exceptional deficits in the Middle East will resolve, but will linger in some areas of Saudi Arabia, the Levant, Oman, and Iran. Surpluses of varying intensity will continue in western coastal Yemen and southwestern Saudi Arabia.
The forecast indicates that much of Australia will experience mild to moderate water deficits, with some pockets of intense deficits and surpluses appearing throughout the continent. Similarly intense deficits are expected to emerge in Tasmania and New Zealand. Existing surpluses in the continent’s southeastern regions are expected to continue, as well as in the northern island of New Zealand.
The forecast through May 2023 indicates that surpluses in southeastern Australia will persist, though much of the anomalies in New South Wales will change to intense transitional conditions. Surpluses in northern New Zealand are expected to remain, as are intense deficits in southwestern New Zealand.
The 12-month forecast ending in September 2023 indicates that exceptional anomalies are expected to persist in southeastern Australia and western New Zealand, with mild anomalies throughout both countries.
