United States: Water deficits will persist in the West & Rockies

The forecast through August indicates water deficits of varying intensity in the West, Southwest, Rockies, parts of the Pacific Northwest, Virginia, North Carolina, and Georgia. Areas with a forecast of surplus include the Dakotas and Minnesota, and western Washington and Oregon.

Through September, water surpluses along the Mississippi River, its tributaries, and states on the western bank of the river will moderate, but significant surpluses are forecast in a column from South Dakota through central and eastern Texas and will include extreme to exceptional anomalies in many areas, particularly South Dakota. Areas of deficit include the Pacific Northwest, northwestern Minnesota, the western Upper Peninsula of Michigan, and along the Atlantic coast in North Carolina.

The outlook for September 2015 indicates predominately warmer temperatures in the Southeast US, Central America, South America, much of Africa, the Arabian Peninsula, Iran, India, Southeast Asia, Indonesia, and Malaysia. Exceptionally drier conditions are expected in Central America, northern South America, coastal West Africa, central India, Malaysia, and Indonesia. Wetter than normal areas include: central US, Argentina, Uganda, and Turkey.
