ISCIENCES WORLDWIDE WATER WATCH LIST February 2025
This map presents a selection of regions likely to encounter significant water anomalies during the one year period beginning in November 2024 and running through October 2025 using 3 months of observed temperature and precipitation data and 9 months of forecast data.
The synopsis that follows provides highlights of regional water forecasts. Regional details are available in ISciences Global Water Monitor & Forecast Watch List February 14, 2025 (pdf).
United States: Several southern states are expected to endure severe to exceptional deficits until April 2025.
Canada: Severe to exceptional deficits are expected to remain in portions of the Prairie Provinces, as well as the West Coast region, until April 2025.
Mexico, Central America, and the Caribbean: Extreme to exceptional surpluses will remain in most of Central America until April 2025.
South America: Pockets of central and south-central Brazil can expect severe to extreme deficits until July 2025.
Europe: Severe to exceptional deficits will continue in most of eastern Europe until July 2025.
Africa: Regions along the Sahel are expected to observe severe to extreme surpluses until October 2025 or longer.
Middle East: Exceptional deficits are anticipated in regions of the Levant until July 2025.
Central Asia and Russia: Regions of Buryatia and Western Siberia are expected to observe exceptional deficits until July 2025.
South Asia: Southern and south-central regions of South Asia can expect widespread severe to extreme surpluses until April 2025.
Southeast Asia and the Pacific: Severe to extreme surpluses are expected in several regions of Maritime Southeast Asia until April 2025.
East Asia: Widespread deficits throughout the Yangtze River Basin are expected to remain until April 2025.
Australia & New Zealand: Northern areas of Queensland should anticipate moderate to severe surpluses until October 2025 or longer.
