Exceptional deficit anomalies will continue in southern regions of the Middle East, as well as in coastal regions of Turkey. Isolated pockets of exceptional deficit will also persist in Iran. Southwestern coastal areas of the Middle East will continue to observe moderate to severe surplus.

Exceptional deficits will remain in areas near Lake Baikal and in much of western Russia. Northern and southeastern Kazakhstan will observe continuing surpluses of varying intensity, as will some Russian areas near the Lena River.

Southeast Asia and the Pacific: Moderate to exceptional water deficits in the coming months

Many parts of Southeast Asia and the Pacific may continue to experience moderate to exceptional water deficits in the coming months. Deficits may be of the greatest extent and severity September through November and may persist through May, particularly in eastern Borneo and neighboring Sulawesi, the island of New Guinea, and the Philippines.

Many parts of Southeast Asia and the Pacific may continue to experience moderate to exceptional water deficits in the coming months.  Exceptional water deficits are forecast for Thailand, Cambodia, and the island of New Guinea.

Southeast Asia and the Pacific: Severe to Exceptional Water Deficits through January 2016

Moderate to severe water deficits are forecast to continue in much of Southeast Asia and the Pacific through January 2016, with portions of central Vietnam and Southern Thailand being hit the hardest.

Many analyses reported in ISciences-authored blog posts are based on data generated by the ISciences Water Security Indicator Model (WSIM). This capability has been in continuous operation since April 2011 and has proven to provide reliable forecasts of emerging water security concerns in that time-frame.
