Exceptional deficit anomalies will continue in southern regions of the Middle East, as well as in coastal regions of Turkey. Isolated pockets of exceptional deficit will also persist in Iran. Southwestern coastal areas of the Middle East will continue to observe moderate to severe surplus.

Exceptional deficits will remain in areas near Lake Baikal and in much of western Russia. Northern and southeastern Kazakhstan will observe continuing surpluses of varying intensity, as will some Russian areas near the Lena River.

The forecast through July indicates that anomalies will shrink and downgrade in Southeast Asia, leaving surpluses in northern and central Vietnam. Surpluses are also forecast for many parts of Indonesia and will be intense in southwestern Sumatra and Flores Island.

The forecast through June indicates that water deficits will shrink and downgrade, particularly in Thailand where exceptional deficits will moderate. In Cambodia, a pocket of extreme deficit will persist north of Tonlé Sap. Areas of surplus include western Indonesian Borneo and western Java.

The forecast through April indicates persistent water deficits in Thailand and western Cambodia though the extent of exceptional deficits will shrink to small pockets. Intense surpluses will persist in western Myanmar, Vietnam’s North Central Coast, and northern Mindanao.
