The forecast for February 2025 expects significant water deficits for the 12-month period of November 2024 through October 2025 in northwestern and central Africa, southwestern U.S., eastern Europe, and central South America. Areas expected to experience surplus include central Africa, northern Canada, and Central America.

Exceptional deficits will resolve in Mainland Southeast Asia. Some regions of Maritime Southeast Asia can anticipate moderate to severe surpluses.
Surpluses will persist in much of north-central, south-central, and eastern India.

WSIMv2 makes use of more recent and publicly available input datasets and uses a revised methodology for calculating composite water anomalies.
ISciences announced today the start of the Data ANalytics and Tools for Ecosecurity (DANTE) project. A joint effort of ISciences, the Center for International Earth Science Information Network (CIESIN) and North Carolina-based CASE Consultants International, DANTE aims to provide scientists, defense and security analysts, relief agencies, businesses and communities with enhanced insights into the connections between environmental stresses and security outcomes.
